Road Closure – Market Harborough Road between St Thomas Cross and the A5 – 9 days from 10th September 2025
ROAD CLOSURE
The Parish Council has been advised that Warwickshire County Council will be closing Market Harborough Road between St Thomas Cross and the A5 for resurfacing for around 9 days from 10th September.
WCC originally proposed that the diversion routes be via Newton village and Clifton (Lilbourne Road). Newton Parish Council objected to this for obvious reasons and WCC has agreed that the diversion route now is be via the Gibbet Cross and the A426. Traffic will not now be diverted via Newton or Clifton and there will be additional signage at both the Cross and the Newton Lane/A5 junction to make it clear that the route through Newton is unsuitable for large vehicles.
Whilst those unfamiliar with the area will probably follow the diversion local drivers are more likely to devise their own routes so we may see an increase in traffic through both villages. Hopefully the signage relating to HGVs will keep large vehicles out of Newton.
The amended diversion route is a lot better than that originally proposed and if Market Harborough Road is to be closed it’s probably as good as it’s going to get.
The plan below shows the length of road to be closed in red and the location of the various diversion signs.
